Not sure if this is the correct place to post (please move this post if needed) but here it goes : )
Looking to join your flying club and have been looking at planes the last few weeks. And I have also have had some talks wtih Scott J in emails about your club.
In my looking, I have it boiled down to a Carbon Cub S+ or a Turbo Timber 1.5m. Not sure if the cub S+ would teach me bad habits (due to the auto land) but I like the features in the plane. Same with the Timber. Timer is BNF and I like the fact I could go get a 6ch receiver and also bind other planes to it. Timer does not have the auto landing. Both I think are good options but wanted to see if I could get your input? What are your thoughts? What do you all think would be a good 1.2m to a 1.5m trainer (electric)?
A little about me, I used to fly RC planes 25 years ago but I need to start over. I started out with basically a nitro racing plane with a 40ss in it. Then moved to a Piper Cub 1/4 scale with an Enya 80 4 Stroke in it. Sold it before I moved out to Iowa (wish i did not). So I want to start over fresh, get my bearings back and enjoy that time with you all. The events, the fun and the learning from you all would be awesome. I am looking at getting back into AMA and getting the FAA sticker (once I finally decide on a plane) and then hope to come out and learn.
I do work in Urbandale, not to far from the west field. I live on the NE side of Ankeny so I also don't live to far from the East field : ) Best of both worlds I think : )
Look forward to your replies and look forward to meeting you all! Ted

Hi Ted. My name is Alan and I usually fly at West Field. This Saturday there will be several pilots at the field. If you can come out, that would be great. If you think you might need assistance getting back into the air, our training program begins on May 27th. However, you could visit Saturday with one of our flight instructors about something before that. We encourage folks coming back to the hobby to get some buddy box time just to things going. Our preference for a trainer is an Apprentice. Good flying trainer and you can later fly it aerobatically by changing the control surface throws.
I really look forward to meeting you. I'll be there by 12:30 pm on Saturday. Alan

Hi Ted, your best bet is to come out to one of the fields this Sat and talk with the guys flying. Very likely that folks will be flying Sat afternoon. We are also hosting a biplane fun fly a week from Sat at West Field. Also come out on Monday evening training nights at West Field. They start the first Monday after Memorial Day.

I would ask you to consider the Apprentice. It is the airplane that we use for training. Of the airplanes that you have talked about in this post I would look at the Timber it does not have all the fancy electronics and is a much more capable airplane. I have the Timber X and really enjoy it. You also might want to consider coming to training night on Monday nights starting after memorial day. You would be able to get time on a buddy box and also get help with the Timber.

Finally got some time to get my AMA and FAA registration done. Got the application filled out as well and plan on bringing that and the $ out tomorrow to the west field. I will bring my plane with me but I don't plan to fly quite yet. Still want to do some watching and more listening.
