Spring is coming soon! Let's see how many Convergence air frames we can get in the air this summer. Maybe a "Convergence Fly-In" some weekend. Have you flown your Convergence yet? I've hovered mine in my basement about a dozen times so far. I need a lot of practice yet. I switched out the original Convergence flight controller with one called the PixFalcon. It's a GPS based controller. Got a ways to go in understanding all it can do and how to set it up. It's pushing the limits of my tired brain. But it will be a fun challenge.

Progress update: During my hover tests, I've noticed that my 30c lipos get pretty warm after only about 4 minutes of flight. So, I ordered a couple of HobbyKing's Turnigy heavy duty 60c 2200mah lipos. They still get warm, but they should be able to withstand the current draw of the 3 motors while hovering. Hope to get outside very soon weather permitting. I hope to get out to WestField with Denis and his Convergence. I want to see how the 2 flight controllers compare in stability. And, just get familiar with flying a tricopter type frame. I just ordered my first quad copter. :-) So, I have no experience with this type of flying. I'm also trying to get my head around the PixFalcon's use of Flight Modes and channels/switches. So far I have channel 6, switch H, as the normal/hover mode control. Channel 5, switch A, as the GPS(mission)/Manual flight mode control. Channel 7, switch E, as the Return to Launch/Manual flight mode control. And working on making Channel 8, switch D, the Position Hold/Manual flight mode control.

While doing some more testing, I noticed that one of the motors were loose. They use 2 set screws to hold the motor to the motor mount. One set screw was missing!! Probably vibrated loose. Would be wise to check all the set screws on all 3 motors.

Hey Alan. I'm ready to do some VTOL practice!! I get a bit nervous hovering at about 4 ft. in my basement. Especially when it gets close to the ceiling fan. But, I've used about 6 batteries worth of time there. Not sure how it's going to go when it moves past 4 ft. :-)

I'm sure it will be good. You usually don't have many issues.

I picked up a Nano QX quad copter from Hobby Haven today. Since I don't have quad flying experience, I thought it would be a good idea to get some flight time in on something like this before sending the convergence frame upwards too far! I got the DX9 setup file from Denis. (Thanks!) That should save some time and headache getting it in the air. Does anyone use their regular charger for these batteries? And where would you get a connector?

What battery LaVerne? If they are the single cell with the white connection on the battery, you can get a charge lead at Hobby Haven.

I use a board I got from Hobby Heaven. It can charge 6 batteries at one time using a regular charger. I only charge one battery at a time unless I'm at an event like the indoor fly. To charge more then one at a time the board expects all the batteries to be at about the same discharge

They are the single cell lipos. Thanks for the connector tips. Sounds like I need to go back to Hobby Haven. I did get 2 batteries worth of flying the QX last night. And thanks again Denis for the model file! It worked great. After I updated my DX9. :-)

I know it's April 1st, but, I got in 4 very conservative hover flights today. And the Convergence is still in one piece!! Definitely not comfortable with VTOL type flying. But, that's what practice is for. I was pleased with the stability. Does not fly at all like the Nano QX I've been practicing with to help train the brain to use the rudder stick. Looking forward to more practice. And then, transition to forward flight. I'm not worried about the forward flight as all my saucers are elevon based just like the convergence. It's what happens after it goes back to hover mode.
